Ground / How we do this

How we build this data

Where every figure comes from, how the live FY 2024-25 numbers are read from annual reports, and the rules we hold ourselves to. If you can't trace a number to its source, it doesn't belong here.

Sources

Two kinds of CSR data, clearly labelled

Official record (FY 2020-21 to FY 2023-24): the complete, reconciled data from the MCA National CSR Portal — every company that filed, by sector and state.

Live frontier (FY 2024-25): MCA's bulk data for the latest year isn't out yet, so we read it ourselves from listed companies' annual reportsas they're filed. Every figure on the site is tagged so you always know which of the two you're looking at.

Extraction

How we read an annual report

For the live year, we fetch each listed company's annual report and read its statutory CSR disclosure — the Annexure to the Board's Report / Form CSR-2. From it we pull two things:

  • Total CSR spent that year — a single regulated figure, sanity-checked against historical patterns and an outlier review before it goes live.
  • Who received it — the implementing agencies, NGOs, government bodies, and direct projects named in the report, with amounts where the report itemises them, and the agency's CSR registration number where shown.

The reading is AI-assisted, but constrained: it extracts only what is printed in the report and is instructed never to invent a number or a name. Where a figure isn't clearly stated, we leave it blank rather than guess.

Honesty

What we will and won't claim

  • The FY 2024-25 view is live and in progress — a growing slice of listed companies, never presented as the complete year.
  • Recipient lists are a floor, not a total — companies aren't required to name who they fund, so an organisation with no disclosed funding simply means none was publicly named, not that it received nothing.
  • Every figure is shown as disclosed by the company, traceable to its source. We add nothing.
  • No invented numbers, no fabricated source links, no “Bhoomi-verified” stamp on data we haven't actually verified.

Spotted a figure that looks wrong? That helps us — tell us and we'll trace it. Plain-language explainers, not legal or financial advice.
